Club History
The idea for the Guild grew from just some hazy dreams in a shed between a few old "Range Woodies" who felt the need for a club to serve the entire Blackall Range. Development on the Range and adjacent areas due to the retirement and recreational plans of many people was increasing, and the search for fulfilling hobies, perhaps with some income generation, and the chance for constructive community involvment was growing. The decision was made to "have a go" and the club had its first meeting in St Mary's Hall on the Village Green of Montville on the 4th march, 1996. The Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild Inc was formally incorporated on April 30th, 1996. After six years in half a shed on Western Avenue, Montville the move was made to new permanent premises at the Montville Sports Ground, about 3 kms south of Montville in 2002. This followed the receipt of a Junipers Grant. With good local support, the Club has rapidly grown into a thriving purposeful group of over 130 members. This number includes a number of ladies. The Guild now has a range of equipment that is the envy of many similar groups. In our new shed we envisage young people, retirees, people in care centres and similar being able to take advantage of the benefits a permanent and purpose built shed can provide. |
