WOODCRAFT SALE

It has been decided to try having a Woodcraft Sale in November in Montville.   This will allow both prospective customers to pick up quality Christmas presents as well as provide an outlet for members to sell some of their woodcraft.    The proposal is to hold a two day sale (29/30 November) in the St.Mary’s Hall with a 10% commission on sales going to the club.

SHARPENING & FINE HONING
OF TOOLS DEMO

On  Saturday 25th October 2008 at 9am Dave Southern will give a talk and demonstration on getting that really fine edge on your cutting tools such as chisels and blades.   Dave is our  master carver who won the EXPO award for the last 2 years!

 

To produce such fine work Dave’s chisels must be exceptionally sharp so come along and find out how Dave does it.

TURNER’S COURSE

A course to introduce members to the fun of turning will be held on a date to be announced.   This course will go over several weeks and Ray Curry has offered to be the tutor/guru.   Ray will take participants through the rudiments of turning such as safety, use of chisels, wood types and members will end up with a lump of wood (sorry, fine piece of woodcraft) of which they can boast to their rellies.

DEMONSTRATIONS & CLASSES

The Guild is keen to have more demonstrations on  Saturday mornings and classes over an extended period of several days.   We have plenty of very skilled members who are keen to impart their knowledge.   Remember the last demo on finishing which attracted 20% of our members!.   We can also bring in outside ‘experts’ on various topics if that’s what you wish.

 

If you have any particular aspect of woodworking you’d like demonstrated  (don’t be shy – we all started with a hammer & a sore thumb!)   please let President Dave (5439 9113) know so he can organise something.
