Along with milking of the herd many farmer's wives had to spin and knit their own clothing. Mostly, it would have been from wool shorn on the property.
Today other materials such as silk and fibres from exotic animals like alpacas are used.
In this short movie Brienna Ahrenfeldt shows the old but re-emerging skill of spinning yarn for clothing.
