President's Message  2009

    From President Chris Brooker

Allow me to introduce myself as your new President for the coming year.

Raised in Maleny I went to school here and away, worked in a bank for about 14 years during which I served two years with the Army, returned and bought the family business, a fuel and fertilizer depot.    Worked at that for about 26 years and eventually sold out to BP.     Have a lovely wife, three equally lovely daughters and 5 grandchildren.      I am involved with Rotary, ex treasurer of the Show Society and High School P & C and a few other community organizations.

One thing we wish to address is the falling off of contact with members. In this newsletter will be a request to register your e.mail address (if you have one) with us.      We can then easily contact you with meeting notices, newsletters and other pertinent information for minimal cost.     We will of course continue to contact those without e.mail by other means such as phone or mail.

Had a yarn with Rodney Skerman the other day.       He told me how his dad, as the builder, put the main trusses for the Community Centre in place with hand winches and hard work.

The building of our hall would have been a similar experience.     Next time you’re down at the hall, have a look at the ceiling trusses from the deck and try to imagine the amount of work involved…all with volunteers who were young blokes trying to maintain a family, job and build a hall at the same time.

I want to talk more about the hall next newsletter.
