Maleny Toastmasters meeting was a very special Occasion again last Thursday.   It was the time of time of the year  “Cabinet Reshuffle” and the Executive Committee gets re-elected to Office to serve our club for the incoming year.

Most of the people holding office are changed to allow different members to learn another Role.   This follows the Toastmasters Promise to help Members become better Leaders through Practice.

The Formal Induction of those elected will take place on 28th June 2007.

Last Thursday's Meeting of Maleny Toastmasters Club will go down in the History of our Area 22 as a Memorable occasion.    It was our 400TH MEETING!    We were delighted to share the nightwith many Distinguished Guests who all joined in enthusiastically with the Theme "Come Fly With Me".

The programme was built round that theme and there was plenty of fun and laughter as everyone joined in with original costumes and topics to suit the thought.     Among our Guests were Central Division Governor Coral McVeen, Area 22 Governor John Sells, Area 16 Governor B Williams.   Representatives attended in support from Clubs far and wide.   Thank you to all, it made us feel very honoured.

Maleny Toastmasters Club has a Distinguished History.   It was Chartered in on 21st July 1990 when it became one of only 4 Clubs in our Area 22 .   It was Sponsored by Nambour Toastmasters Club The first meeting was a dinner meeting at the Maleny Hotel.

Since then The Club has contributed greatly towards the Mission of the Worldwide Toastmasters Organisation which dedicates itself to enhancing Communication and Leadership Skills in a friendly and supportive environment.    It has Hosted 2 Conferences at the Maleny Showgrounds, and has 3 Area Governors to its Credit.

The Club Members conduct Speechcraft Courses in Schools and in the Local Community.    We are, at present, Sponsoring the new Kilcoy Toastmasters Club in Formation.

On Saturday 14th April 2007 The Maleny Toastmasters Team went down to Kawana Community Centre to participate in the Area 22 Speech Contest and what a fantastic day it turned out to be.    Anna Heriot competed in the "First Time Speaker" category and WON it! her subject was "Conducting the Opening of the Interfaith Festival."

Marguerite May was awarded Second place for her Interpretive Reading of a story by Roald Dahl.  It was all about the abduction of the cooks' wife on a farm in Africa.   Nothing unusual about that?   Well, how would you feel if you were being stolen by a lion?

Shirley Aldrick was Contest Chairman for the "Tall Tales" Segment and Pat Wyllie was Contest Chairman for "First Time Speaker" Margie Richter was a Timer, Kathy Niemenen, a Tally Counter, and Ed Heinisch and his Dad, Hans, went along to learn, and support their Team.

Our Area 22 comprises 6 Toastmaster Clubs and it was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to hear other Clubs speak and for us to make new friends.

Our Meeting next week will be our 400th Meeting and promises to be the Best Ever.    Invitations have gone out, replies have come in.    So we will be dressing to the theme "Come Fly With Me" and we are looking forward to making it another memorable occasion.

"Public Speaking isn't always a serious business, sometimes it is hilarious.   It gives people an opportunity to see the funny side of a personality and helps them to laugh at themselves!

February 2007

WOW!    What a night!    The Maleny Toastmasters Meeting last Thursday was one to really remember.    Three of our members gave their "Ice breaker" speeches all on one night!

A first event for us and I wonder how many other Toastmaster Clubs can boast that?   Dena Orr was so keen to get going that she prepared her speech from a borrowed Manual and got up and delivered it straight after being handed her "Starter Package" Well done Dena you are great.

The "Ice Breaker" speech is just that.    New Toastmasters break the ice and get right into public speaking by telling us all about themselves for only three to five minutes.    Before they do, they are gently guided in the preparation by a mentor and then evaluated in a warm and friendly manner.

Toastmasters, MALENY

Plenty of encouragement is offered and it just seems to be a lot easier to get up on their feet the second time.    During the meetings we have fun filled, interactive sections like Round Robin, Listening Games and Reportbacks.

Please feel free to attend one of our meetings and share what could be a changing point in your life which is the stage for communication skills everyday.    Learn how to communicate effectively and have a much happier family and business life.

Pat would love to hear from you on 54 396121.

If you are interested in hearing more about how our Club can help you, please feel free to contact Pat on 54396121 or Shirley on 54943933 for more information or look up our page in the Community Clubs Section of website www.hinterlandgrapevine.com
