Ringing in the changes
at Maleny Apex
by Cameron Outridge

The Apex Club of Maleny held their Changeover Dinner at the RSL last Saturday night.   Fifty people, including Life Members and Senior Active Members, were in attendance.

The Club reflected on another successful year, accomplishing many community projects.  These included repainting the Witta Rec Club, relocating the “Welcome to Maleny” sign and numerous BBQ’s and Bars.   Maleny Apex also hosted the finals of the High School District Debating competition, the junior section of which was won by the team from Maleny State High School.

Life membership of the Club was awarded to Brett Heading, a great honour that has only been awarded 9 times in the Club’s 41 year history. Brett joins his uncles Alan and Ross as Life Members, an incredible achievement for one family.   Brett has held executive positions four times, including President twice, and has been on the Board 13 times in 17 years in the Club.   He also contributed much to other community groups, including Maleny Junior Soccer Club, Maleny Junior Cricket Club and the Witta Rec Club.

Steve Howard and Rob Pollock also retired from the Club, with both contributing countless service hours to the Maleny Community during their time as Apexians.   The three will be sorely missed at meetings and during service work.

Incoming President Luke Wilkinson introduced his new Board and presented the 2003-4 edition of the Apex Business Directory.   The Directory continues to grow, and with this the Club is able to plough valuable funds back in to many worthwhile local projects.  This year's edition will be distributed in a few weeks.

A new Apexian, Chris Bourke, was inducted in to the Club by
Senior Active Member, Wayne Brown.
