"Run the corridors!
Athletics season is coming.
by Cameron Outridge

On Tuesday July 15, the twelfth running of the annual “Run the Corridors” took place to officially open the Beerwah State High Athletics Carnival.    This traditional event is based on the Run of the Corridors” tradition from Cambridge University.   Each of the four houses Tibberoowuccum, Miketeebumbalgrai, Tunbabudla and Ngun Ngun) selects a runner from the Senior and Junior Girls and Boys to represent their house.

As well as these competitors, the Principal, Mr Boyd Jorgensen also makes a selection of four competitors to represent him in the race.   Each race is timed to the ringing of a bell, which takes place every five seconds, instead of a stopwatch.   The twenty runners who were selected to participate this year’s race did extremely well.

This year the winners of the events were: Junior Male Mark Page; Junior Female Heather Stevens; Senior Male Jeremy Quinn.

All competitors tried their best and were cheered on loudly by their houses. Run the Corridors is another of the many cultural icons that Beerwah are proud of and the students enjoy.

Field events are now underway every lunch hour culminating in the track and field carnival on August 1.

Senior Boys off to flying start, from left, Jeremy Quinn, Bernhard Emmelmann, David Coleman and Ben Crack.
