Maleny Show Grounds come to life!
by Brigitte Schlifelner

Preparations for Caloundra City’s 66th Annual Show were well underway this week. Volunteers have all pulled together to get the grounds ready for this Friday and Saturday, including 40 volunteers from the Solutions Group – Work for the Dole Scheme.

“The New Beef Pavilion has been pretty much completed,” said Ivan Hankinson, Show Society President. “It has been fantastic with 30 to 40 volunteers turning up each day.”

This year the the new Beef Pavilion will be hosting a Drought Master Feature Show. “Normally we have about 150 to 180 head of cattle, but this year our numbers are up to 250,” said Ivan. “Dairy numbers are also up with a Jersey Feature Show. Word has got around about the sort of Show we put on here. Everyone just loves it.”

Show goers will enjoy more horses than ever with representation from the Downs, Toowoomba, Northern Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Dogs are also represented by record numbers with judging commencing at 9am on Saturday.   The Sunshine Coast Cat Club invites everyone to come along with sessions beginning at 9.30am on Saturday.

“Trade exhibitors are bigger than ever this year,” said Ivan. “And we have lots of great entertainment.”

Look out on Friday afternoon, just before the Grand Parade, when a parachuter will be falling from the skies above Maleny with a huge Australian flag.
