Local Artist selected as
finalist in Archibald Prize

by Cameron Outridge

TMaleny artist, David Paulson has been chosen as one of the 40 finalists of 732 entries in this year’s Archibald Prize.   The Archibald Prize is Austrlia’s leading prize for portraiture and this year’s finalists include four Queenslanders.   David has been living in Maleny for only 18 months but has become fairly well known throughout the community during this time.

Many TRN readers may also know him from his life drawing classes.   “The painting is 3 metres by 2 metres high,” said David.  “It is a portrait of my friend and fellow artist - Richard Bell, standing in front of one of his paintings.  “I used acylics for the first time in a while as it was the only way to reproduce Richard’s painting acurately, and then continued on paintng his portrait in the same medium.” David says he is doing his best to enjoy his 15 minutes of fame.  The Archibald Prize winner will be announced this Friday..
