$195m for
Bruce Highway upgrade

The Caboolture Motorway, a 26.8 kilometre section of the Bruce Highway, from the Gateway Arterial to Caboolture, carries up to 75,000 vehicles a day and is a key link in the road freight network north of Brisbane.

“Just about everyone who lives in my electorate of Longman uses the Caboolture Motorway on a regular basis and this $195 million will ensure their travels are quicker and safer in the future,” Mr Brough said.

Stage One of the upgrade, from the Gateway Arterial to Dohles Rocks Road, was completed in April 2002 and work on Stage Two up to Boundary Road is well advanced with a completion date set for late 2004.

Today’s Auslink announcement delivers funding which will accelerate and provide for the completion of 6 lanes and upgrading of interchanges up to the proposed northern Caboolture bypass.

Mal Brough at Monday’s press conference.

“I and fellow MP’s, Teresa Gambaro and Peter Dutton, have been working hard to obtain the funding to alleviate the nightmare traffic congestion that often occurs on the Caboolture Motorway.  “The Auslink announcement is great news for both families and small businesses in the Pine Rivers Shire” according to Peter Dutton, MP for Dickson.

To date, the Australian Government has spent almost $71 million progressively widening the Caboolture Motorway to 6 lanes in two stages from the Gateway Arterial Road to Boundary Road and a further $7.9 million on planning and preconstruction for the remaining sections to Caboolture.

Work will commence on Stage Three of the project, between Boundary Road and Uhlmann Road, soon after Stage Two opens to traffic.  Design work is almost complete for this 8.5 kilometre section which is expected to cost about $108 million and will go to tender within the next few months.

Planning for the remaining work, Stage Four, between Uhlmann Road and the Caboolture North Bypass is proceeding with details of this work yet to be finalised and a target completion date of October 2008.
