Deputy Principal receives
recognition for service

by Elise Martin

When Maleny State High School Deputy Principal Barbara Fowler was granted a Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship she couldn't believe the news.  "They didn't just come out and say it, they gave a description first.  I was thinking this can't be me," Mrs Fowler said.

Three Maleny people received the Paul Harris Fellowship at a changeover meeting at Malcolm's Restaurant on Wednesday, June 30 in recognition of their community service. Rotarians John Chiarotto and Gordon Jones also received Fellowships in recognition of their involvement in community projects.

Mrs Fowler's community-based activities include her work as Deputy Principal at Maleny State High School and as Secretary of the Zonta Club of the Blackall Range, her involvement in St Mary's Anglican at Montville, and her association in international projects against genital mutilation and domestic violence.

Mrs Fowler said she was very grateful for the recognition, but simply enjoyed being able to help others by using her contacts and resources.  "I love to be able to bring a smile to somebody's face or to be able to help in some way.  I don't need recognition.   This is a by-product because I get enough out of just being able to do it," she said.  "I would recommend it to anyone, to be involved at some level in their community."

Barbara Fowler ...  "I would recommend it to anyone,
