Federal Labor's campaign
office officially opens

by Cameron Outridge

Federal Labor Candidate for Longman, Stephen Beckett has had his new campaign office opened this week by Shadow Attorney-General Nicola Roxon MP. Ms Roxon joined about 90 supporters, guests and members of the community to open the new campaign office.

“Stephen Beckett was regarded as one of the hardest working candidates in the Country who really understands the pressures in the local community,” said Ms Roxon. “That is why I am pleased to be part of the official opening of the Longman Campaign Office today,” she said.

“I know that if elected Stephen Beckett will be a strong voice for Longman.” Ms Roxon highlighted Stephen’s commitment to save Medicare and restore bulk billing in Longman, which had seen a dramatic 27per centdecline under the Howard Government in justthe last three years.

“A lot of promises were made before the lastelection about Caboolture having a Universitycampus, I know that Stephen is committed to the seeing the Caboolture University become a reality,” she said.

“The polling is showing that it was neck and neck in Longman and it will be a tough fight for us, particularly against a well-healed Minister, but Stephen Beckett will give it his best shot.” “Longman needs someone who is prepared to fight to make sure that the local community gets looked after. I know Stephen Beckett will stand up for people living in Longman.”

Earlier in the day, Ms Roxon held a Community Legal Forum in Caboolture and visited the local Legal Aid office to unveil Labor’s plans to ensure better access to legal funding for local residents. The Longman Campaign Office is located in the Murrumba Hub Arcade, King Street Caboolture.

Shadow Attorney-General Nicola Roxon MP and Labor Candidate Stephen Beckett cut the ribbon to open the Longman Campaign Office.
