Faculty Towers night
raises $2300

In a rip-roaring night of frivolity, Maleny High School provided a range of entertainment for about 170 guests last weekend.

Established by Canteen Convenor Verley Hooper for the specific purpose of raising funds for some shade shelters on the High School oval. The Faculty Towers evening of mayhem and madness resulted in over $2300 being put towards that venture, which could cost up to $16,000.

The drawcard was certainly the mini-drama based on the British comedyseries, Fawlty Towers. In six sharp scenes, all the bungling and confusion associated with the mismanaged hotel were displayed, with a lot of surprises along the way. Directed by teacher Matt Burke, the characters were made up of Basil (Paul Tarbuck), Sybil (Peta Cave), Manuel (Rod Owens), Polly (Emma Becker), The Major (Cameron Page), Mr Firkins the punter (John Park) and the half-deaf Mrs Richards (Verley Hooper), with resident old ladies in the form of Cheryl Farley, Jan Scott, Elizabeth Mucha, Barbara Ratcliffe and Debra Ramsay.

The High School wishes to thank all businesses who sponsored the evening with donations and gifts, and to all the helpers who assisted in the setting up, meal preparation and cleaning up afterwards. There will be street stalls held to raise further money and the major raffle of the $5000 cruise will be drawn in September. Make sure you buy a ticket.
