Student takes part in
holiday music program

by Cameron Outridge

In the second week of the school holidays Maleny State High student Arlo Goozee participated in the Queensland Conservatorium State Honours Ensemble Program for 2004.

The Music department at the high school nominated Arlo and from 950 applications was of the 450 chosen to participate in the 4-day program.  The Queensland Conservatorium State Honours Ensemble program has been in existence for a number of years now and it has the reputation of bringing the best conductors from around the world to work with Queensland’s top instrumental students.

The guest conductors for the 2004 program some of the most internationally recognised conductors, clinicians, adjudicators and musical directors in the world today.  Arlo was fortunate to have Dennis Johnson, President for the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, from the as conductor for his orchestra.

Students from private and public schools across the state were divided into 5 orchestras, given new music to learn over the intensive program culminating in a Grand Finale Concert performed to a packed audience in the Conservatorium Theatre on the final day.

Arlo was proud to represent Maleny High School and agrees this event is a unique opportunity to extend and develop musical skills and many new like-minded friends.

Arlo Goozee was selected from 950
applicants for the 4-day program.
