Poets Head to Kenilworth for
Breakfast ... but it could be verse

by Cameron Outridge

Join Kenilworth on Saturday September 25 for their 3rd Annual Poet’s Breakfast – part of the Kenilworth Celebrates Festival.  There’s a top line-up of poets; favourites from last year as well as great new faces making their first performance in Kenilworth and there’s always room for more!

Special guest this year is the wonderful Shirley Friend who, as well as performing at the breakfast, will later conduct a workshop on performance tips.

Shirley has been a favourite since 1987 for her hilarious festival performances.  From Port Fairy to the Gympie Muster, from Woodford to Winton, this lady has become something of a legend.  A member of the popular Naked Poets, her outrageous comical poetry has had her immortalised on the Wall of Renown at Tamworth’s famous Longyard and now she’s headed for Kenilworth!

Hosted by popular local poet and Woodford regular Ian Mackay the Breakfast includes guests like Muster favourite Harry Donnelly, past National Champion Reciter Mark Feldman, Tasmanian expatriate Leon Tripp, Mapleton’s Reyna Hadley, Ernie Setterfield Champion Phil Morrisson and more.

Venue is the Kenilworth showgrounds (not the Scout Hall as in previous years) mouthing off at 8am.  Cost is $10 for a hearty breakfast and entertainment with real coffee also available.  The performance workshop with Shirley Friend and other guest poets follows the breakfast at around 10.45am at a cost of $5.  For catering purposes bookings are appreciated.

Phone Cheryl on 5446 0350. Also happening is the Country Market and the Kenilworth Art Exhibition, shouldn’t be missed.
