Horseman breathes fresh life into
Maleny's Fifth Light Horse Troop

by Cameron Outridge

Accomplished polo player and horse breeder Joe Colreavy has turned his energies towards a new passion – Maleny’s Fifth Light HorseTroop.

This year’s Anzac Day ceremony will feature a record number of troopers, a fact that pleases Joe, who has worked tirelessly to see the Light Horse tradition continue.

“Partly what I’m about is remembering all those 15 and 16 year old kids in the Light Horse who were killed,’’ he said.  “We lost so many.  We can’t forget.  I want to set it up so it will continue when I’m not here.  It’ll be going for another 20 years while I’m here that’s for sure.  I won’t lose that passion.  I breed polo horses but my passion now has changed to the Light Horse.”

Joe and others in the group are working to make the troop inexpensive and easy to join and to make it more appealing to young riders and members.

Joe Colreavy ... “I ‘ve had such a fantastic life that
I feel I’ve got to give something back.”
