Maleny State High School
swim team 2004

by Cameron Outridge

After winning the "B" division schools zone carnival in 2003, Maleny High was promoted to the "A" division. This was a steep learning curve on the day, with Maleny swimmers "thrown in at the deep end" with some of the best swimmers on the Sunshine Coast. Steven Jeays, Tony Trampnau, Stephanie Cronje and Sophie Williams swam full programs and were exhausted by the end.

That did not stop them performing to the maximum. Huge efforts were also put in by Natasha Hutchinson, India Esdale, Mickey Oliver, Sam Martin, Leo Copelin, Ambrose Molinaro, Katrine Fitton, Hayley Miskin, Elizabeth Yorkston, Jacob Eather, James Shields, Nathan Owens, Tom Beddow, Laura Wilson, Diane Jeays and Sarah Appleby. Special mention goes to Marlo Molinaro, Laura Beddow, Nicole Baker and Emma Osberger who swam in older age groups. All 47 team members put in a great effort and even though it did not earn them a trophy, it gained the appreciation of those who noticed their outstanding team spirit.

Sophie Williams was awarded a medal as 16 years girls' age champion at the Carnival. She had two wins and two seconds in her individual Sophie Williams was awarded a medal as 16 years girls' age champion at the Carnival. events. Sophie now progresses to the Secondary Schools Regional Swimming carnival this week. All those early morning training sessions have indeed paid off.

Congratulations to Sophie.
