Range Restaurants and Caterers
are best on the coast.

by Cameron Outridge

Three businesses on the Range are celebrating after winning Restaurant and Catering Queensland Awards for Excellence last week.

In the Sunshine Coast region, Perry’s Restaurant in Maleny won the hotly-contested BYO Restaurant category, Blue Vine Catering won the Event Catering category, and Misty’s Mountain Restaurant took out a total of three awards; including Informal Dining, Modern Australian Restaurant and Restaurant of the Year for Informal Dining.

The awards night was held in a packed ballroom at the Noosa Sheraton last Monday night, August 9.

Perry’s Restaurant owners Sherry and Peter Perry said they were excited as this was the first competition they had entered in the four years they have owned the restaurant.

“It’s a fabulous achievement for us, we are just absolutely thrilled to bits that they chose us when there are so many other good restaurants around, because food is a very competitive business these days,” Mrs Perry said. “The makings of a good restaurant really are food, service and ambience and I think we’ve got all three … I’m sure we’ve got all three.”

Misty’s Mountain Restaurant managers Janeen and Jeff Anderson said they looked forward to moving into the State competition in Brisbane on September 13.

Misty’s took out Restaurant of the Year for Informal Dining. Misty’s serves Modern Australian food, including seafood, steak, lamb rumps and chicken dishes. “We do seafood and non-seafood dishes, and everything is fresh using local produce,” said Mrs Anderson.

Blue Vine Catering owner Chantal Vancam said for the Event Catering category, they had to set up a restaurant in a marquee at Buderim for one night and present a three-course meal for 250 people. “We weren’t really sure of our competition but we were confident in how we present our business,” she said.

Blue Vine Catering cover weddings and large functions

Blue Vine Catering cover weddings and large events, usually for more than 100 people. Mrs Vancam said Blue Vine Catering could also provide decorations and liquor catering for functions.

All of the winners from the Sunshine Coast region will compete at the State Awards in September. The National awards this year will be held at the Hyatt Coolum.
