Changing rooms at the
Terraces Seafood Restaurant

by Cameron Outridge

Last Tuesday night saw the culmination of some serious competition in interior decorating! Craig Mitchell, owner of the Terrace Seafood Restaurant said,  "After buying the cottages last July we wanted to add our own touch to them, but we needed a fast way to have six rooms ready for Christmas and New Year.   I came up with the idea of making competition between our Head Chef and his lady, our Manager and his wife and of course Pauline and me”.

Given budgets and deadlines the competition started.

Wynn and Craig Mitchell painted and plastered their way through each competitors’ demands and after two months the result was three fabulous sets of rooms each with their own themes.   Of course we had to have a winner!

Judges were organized ... Tony and Jane from Cairncross Gallery, Joyce Bergann (previous owner of the cottages), John Crook (food and travel writer and broadcaster) Tanya Outridge from The Range News.   It was serious stuff.   Cairncross Gallery organized the prizes and even designed a gold logie that would put those things into a dim corner.

“The winner was our wife’s design – burgundys greens and water features,” said Pauline.

So there you have it ... a great recipe for redecorating folks.   Ingredients: a few sets of competitive mates; some poor fools to do the painting and take orders; definitely a strict budget and deadline; a Gold Logie designed by Cairncross Gallery.   Place all in a room with a sumptuous celebratory dinner and add as much pomp and ceremony as you like, finished off with rouses of laughter and applause.

Makes enough fun for all.

Renovators and restaurateurs! Pauline and Craig Mitchell with
Seafood Terrace head chef Chris Wright and his partner Lea..

Our thanks once again to Cameron & Tanya Outridge
