Trevor Hart quartet
to perform in Maleny

by Elise Martin

After a three-week Australian tour, the Trevor Hart Quartet will perform this Saturday, September 4 at the Maleny Community Centre.  The one-night-only concert in Trevor’s hometown will start at 7.30pm.  The Quartet includes Grant Collins on the drums, Toby Wren on the guitar and Andrew Shaw on the Bass.

The Quartet’s nationwide tour in August saw the band pack out Sydney’s Side-On Café and Melbourne’s Bennetts Lane and receive a standing ovation of about 1000 people at an open-air concert in Townsville. The band also performed in Cairns, Perth, Pemberton, Adelaide and Canberra and more.

Trevor said he was grateful for a Regional Arts Development Grant, which helped the band perform in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. Trevor said the concert was a great success and he hoped to do it again next year and eventually look into travelling to Europe.

“Brilliant would be the word,” he said. Mr Hart said this was the first time a Queensland Jazz band had toured.  “Jazz just doesn’t have a touring network,” he said. Mr Hart said the band’s music was original, contemporary and had a wide appeal. “We have so many influences and not just jazz. On the trumpet there is Lester Bowie ... and also Roland Kirk.” “Our songs can go for 20 minutes,” he said. Mr Hart encouraged everyone to attend the concert.

“If you approach any music with an open mind you can get great enjoyment out of it.” Trevor Hart Quartet have been together for about eight years, five of which they spent as resident performers at Ric’s Bar in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

They are widely known for their two highly acclaimed CD’s Amantes and Bike! Bike!

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for Arts Council members, $16 for Concessions and $10 for students. Tickets are available from Top Notch Secretarial on 5494 3677.

The Trevor Hart Quartet will finish their National Tour
with a concert in the Maleny Community Centre.
