Junior Maleny Redbacks
Sign On Day  -  Sun  Aug 26th 9am

Sign on day for the Maleny Junior Cricket Team, The Maleny Redbacks will be Sunday 26th August at 9.00am.    There will also be some informal and fun cricket games for all who turn up for the day.    The club is providing a sausage sizzle and drinks for lunch.

The junior cricket season is from October 6th through to March 15th with a family break between December 15th and January 16th.

The cost for the year is $95.00 which includes a team shirt.

Training starts in September, after school at the training nets, Showgrounds.

Matches are played Saturday morning up to lunch-time.     The Junior Cricket Club would like to field 3 Redbacks teams in the under 11’s, under 13’s and under 15’s this coming season.

The Redbacks pride themselves on their ability to get into the finals most seasons.

The Maleny Junior Cricket Club is run by volunteers.    They are there to support and teach our young people who decide to give cricket a go.

The approved program the junior cricketers follow is devised by the Australian Cricket Board so the standards required by each age level are met.

The beautiful Maleny Showgrounds is the team’s home ground and they play on 2 ovals, one turf and one synthetic.

The Maleny Cricket Club club provides facilities such as the training nets, bowling and fielding equipment etc and more importantly, coaching and disciplined training for the young players.

Cricket is a fun and rewarding sport to play, and the players’ skills base increases yearly.

The most competent junior cricketers are streamed from club cricket into regional and divisional teams if they so wish.   There could be a budding Australian Eleven player in your family – who knows? The Maleny District has already provided a past Australian Test cricketer, Otto Nothling.    He was the only person to have Sir Donald Bradman dropped from the Australian Test Cricket team.

Junior Cricket aims to form age level sides right up to senior cricket.   So if your son or daughter wants to play club cricket, come along to our fun sign-on day.

President and coach of the Redbacks is Barry Canton.   Last season he was the Regional Winner of the coveted Queensland “Good As Gold Award” for coaching.    This was a great honour, not only for Barry, but for the Maleny club.    The boys personally nominating their coach, Barry for this award.

If your family wants to become involved, Barry is happy to answer any queries you may have (5494 4421 or barrycanton@bigpond.com)

"Good Luck to the boys this year..."
