The Bowls club committee has used its social bowls days as regular events raising funds for various community groups. During the social evening Bar-B-Q a presentation was made to Director of Nursing, Maleny Hospital, Mark Cerowkowski on behalf of those social bowlers attending the day. The money raised in this instance will be used for replacement of hospital bed mattresses so if your mattress has seen better days you know where to ggo for a good nights rest. Social days also allow perspective new lawn bowlers to try their hand at this sport. Many people believe that lawn bowls is a past-time for elderly people but until you try it it is difficult to realise what skills are needed to excell at this sport. It certainly is not a matter of just rolling a bowl from one end of the rink to the other.
The Bank of Queensland provided prizes for game winners, raffle draws and game spot prizes for both experienced players and new players alike although it was roumoured that the pens would work only on Bank of Queensland deposit forms.
I am sure that you thought that lawn bowls was just all hard work - there are some benefits to attending.......
Players were kept well provided with drinks by Ann who drove the drinks cart around the rink. From some of the near misses with pedestrians around the rink it is doubted that she was licensed to do so. It is believed that she will be undergoing a defensive training course before the next outing.
One of the hostesses for the afternoon was Sarah, (photo left) grand-daughter of President Wayne Peters.
The Bowls club invites Maleny Bowls club on Friday afternoons when they have a "social rollup" followed by a Bar-B-Q. As well as being a great opportunity to meet other members of the Maleny community it is a great chance to see if you would enjoy playing lawn bowls.
Some of those bowlers enjoying a great Saturday afternoon at a very relaxed social event.....
One of the friendliest Bowls Clubs you will find anywhere....
