Australia’s most prestigious disability awards program also celebrates the support of the business community.
The 2007 STEPS Disability Awards empower, encourage and recognise people living with a disability, as well as rewarding those people and organisations that support them and strive to break down the barriers to employment that they face.
These awards are open to all businesses and educational institutions within the Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast and Wide Bay Burnett regions.
Seven of the 15 award categories will recognise the contributions of carers, education institutions, employers and the media. These include the Employer of the Year, Accessibility, Media Coverage, Manager / Supervisor of the Year, Educational Service Provider of the Year, Lifestyle Enhancement and Supportive Work Team of the Year Awards.
Run by STEPS Disability, a not-for-profit organisation based on the Sunshine Coast, these awards highlight many of the achievements within the 104,000 people along the Sunshine and Fraser Coasts and the Wide Bay Burnett who have a disability.
According to STEPS Disability’s Business Development Coordinator, Jenny Carter, “the Sunshine Coast is playing a pivotal role in changing community beliefs by recognising the contributions of people with a disability, along with those organisations who so generously support them, through the STEPS Disability Awards”.
“The importance placed on these awards is reflected in the fact that they are the only awards in Australia for people with a disability that culminate in a black tie gala dinner,” Ms Carter said.
The celebration will be an ‘Awesome Aussie’ themed event at Aussie World in July.
The 2007 STEPS Disability Awards are free to enter and Entry Kits are available at all STEPS Disability offices or by phoning 07 5446 4299.
Entries close on Friday 8 June.
The awards are sponsored by Channel 10, BrandMAX Media and Marketing, Worldwide Online Printing Maroochydore and Noosa, and Zinc 96.1 FM.
