Enthusiastic community members from across the Hinterland and the wider Sunshine Coast joined local Member for Glass House Andrew Powell when he hosted Senator Barnaby Joyce yesterday.

To capitalise on this opportunity Mr Powell arranged a lunch in Maleny and a dinner in Woodford so that locals from across the electorate had the opportunity to meet the Senator.

"Senator Joyce was a welcome sight in Maleny and he certainly does know how to pull a crowd with over 100 people attending the lunch at Tranquil Park Resort," Mr Powell said.    "The Senator holds the Shadow Portfolio of Regional Development, Local Government and Water so along with discussions around some of these topics, the introduction of the Carbon Tax was also hot on the agenda.

"Senator Joyce and I also had the opportunity to meet with Hinterland dairy farmers to hear the struggles and challenges they face with fixed price contracts for the sale of milk and the impact this is having for small farming operations," Mr Powell stated.

Senator Barnaby Joyce was also the special guest at a dinner function in Woodford with over 80 attendees.

"The main topic of conversation was the introduction of the Carbon Tax from 2012 and the dreadful implications this will have for local business and families.

"Everyone knows Senator Joyce is going to give a direct and honest answer and he certainly didn't disappoint the Woodford crowd with his frank and open discussions,” Mr Powell concluded.
