Firefighters have warned that lives could be lost if motorists and residents continue to venture into flooded areas. Floodwaters are treacherous and the dangers are hidden under the surface.
Over the past twenty-four hours there have been high rainfall totals falling over the Sunshine Coast. Police and Emergency Service warning comes as motorists had to swim to safety after their cars
became stuck in flood waters in various areas around the South East of Queensland today. Swift water rescues are the most dangerous operations that Emergency Service Officers are required to undertake, and mostly they would have been unnecessary if drivers had used a little common sense. In the lead-up to the summer storm season the Queensland Government conducted an extensive media program explaining the dangers of driving into flood waters, however some people do not appear to have taken any notice. To find out about road closures in the Sunshine Coast area simply go to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council's Facebook page where there is an updated list.
