Father’s day this year could be
celebrated in a very special way. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is
hosting a two-week long celebration which takes in Father’s Day. The
Festival of the Walks is being held between August 29th and September
13th.
Whilst many of us have lived in the area for a long time it would be of interest to know how many of us have actually experienced the beauty and charm of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland rainforest and mountain walks.

|
We don’t need to travel long distances to be able to experience some of the most scenic areas in Australia. Not too far from our front door there are areas of warm subtropical rainforest, tall open eucalypt forest and picturesque waterfalls.
The area has many superb walks ranging from easy to strenuous, from 20 minute strolls to walks of several days. The most extensive of the walks is the Great Walk which winds through the scenic Blackall Range.
Individual walks maps have been produced for the most popular walks and they are all freely available through our own Tourist Information Centre in Maple Street, Maleny. Using these maps one is able to choose a walk that is suitable not only to your fitness but to the type of scenery that you enjoy.
The Festival will also feature a music program with local artists performing during the weekends. In fact on most days during the two weeks there will be events to be enjoyed throughout ther Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
A list of those events can be found at http://www.festivalofthewalks.com.au/events.php
Just because you are a local doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy the festival. It is not only for visitors but you can pretent you are a visitor if you wish.
