First abduction attempt in Maleny |

Maleny Police are seeking two male persons who attempted to abduct a 14
year old female who was at a telephone box at the intersection of Maple
Street and Fig Street, Maleny at about 6.15p.m. on Thursday March 19th.
The public telephone box is situated adjacent to the main street of Maleny and about 100 yards from the Maleny Police Station.

| This attempted abduction was carried out by two male persons who were travelling in a white “courier type” van with a side door.
The
14-year-old girl escaped by kicking one of her attackers in the leg as
he was attempting to get her into the vehicle. This caused him to
loosen his grip allowing her run away permitting an escape. She made her was to a nearby bus stop where she was spotted by a local garage owner.
Garage operator, Simon Moore said, "“I saw this girl sitting there and she was obviously shaken and I said,
‘are you OK’ and she said, ‘someone’s just tried to grab me’,”
The girl had been at a telephone box on Fig Street about 6.15pm when a white car pulled up and a male passenger stepped out. The girl thought she knew the occupants but then realised that she didn’t.
Photofit photos have been released by police of the persons wanted for questioning.
The two male persons involved in this instance are described as Caucasian.
The passenger was about 184cm tall, had a slim build and was wearing denim shirts. The driver had a slim build and light brown hair.

This is believed to be the first
abduction attempt in Maleny. Inquiries of some Maleny residents
revealed that this type of incident is not expected in Maleny where
most people know each other.
This incident shows that it does not matter how close the community is there is always the possibility of similar incidents occurring.
It is hoped that because of the time of day and the location somebody may have witnessed this incident.
It is believed that the victim in this instance was not seriously physically injured in this incident. Snr Sgt Nixon of the Child Protection Investigation Unit said. "The girl and her family are quite upset and coming to terms with what has happened.”
