It
has been announced on January 9th 2010 that Jill Jordan, "The Legend
of Frogs' Hollow" and foundation member of many of Maleny's co-operative
ventures passed away in Bowen on Friday 8th January, 2010.
Jill first came to Maleny first in about August 1970. She had been looking for a place as a bit of a retreat from the city and her professional life style when she found‚ "paradise"' which she later called‚ "Frog's Hollow". Jill once described it as a most beautiful place, a beautiful rock pool set in gorgeous remnant rainforest.
Jill was a local legend, and for better or worse was instrumental in transforming Maleny from a dairy town to the place that we know today.
It all started with the formation of the Maple Street Co-operative in 1979. Initially it was a place where members could obtain organic food and the idea was born out of the idea of the "old style" rural farmers co-operatives.
She has also brought about the creation of a number of other cooperative ventures in Maleny, including the Manduka Cooperative at Frog's Hollow, the Maleny and District Credit Union (where she served not only as the manager in the formative years in the mid 1980’s, but also a number of terms as director), LEED Cooperative and The UpFront Club.
Jill was a Councillor in Caloundra City Council in the early 1990s for one term.
Jill was also a former manager of local company Biolytix.
Jill's funeral will be held in Bowen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 16th, 2010 at the Maleny Community Hall at 2p.m.
