An exhibition of artworks
including seven painted eco-friendly cardboard coffins and organized by
a local Funeral Celebrant, OPENS on Friday 24th July, 2009 at the
Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast

| Local artist, Larian Sloan with her imressionists' coffin
| The exhibition, entitled: “Tree
Change – Sea Change – Coffins Change” is the brainchild of Chris Dunn,
who in her time as a Funeral Celebrant, has rigorously explored the
rituals and regulations surrounding peoples’ last resting rites.
As
Chris explains: “Families may not be aware that the information offered
by funeral homes does not always reflect the full range of choices
available.”
Since trying to plan her own funeral while suffering with cancer herself, Chris has been passionately aware of the lack of education and information on the practicalities of death and dying, not to mention people’s reluctance to want to think of such subjects.
Maleny artist, Larian Sloan is one of the featured artists. Her coffin is called "Impressionistic". It is in memory of the australian impressionist artists and on the lid is my tribute to Vida Lahey one of Queensland woman artists from 1882 - 1968
“This exhibition of a beautiful and varied collection of coffins” says Chris, “represents some of the creative alternatives now coming forward and available to those who wish to personalize their own or a loved ones final farewell.”
Other paintings and artworks by this award-winning group of artists will also be on show at the exhibition which runs at Cooroy from the 24th July to the 11th August and was funded by the Sunshine Coast Regional Councils RADF.
