Australia Zoo administration spokesperson has announced that there will be a reduction of approximately 26 jobs at the Zoo.
This is in response to increasingly difficult times being faced by the operation due to the present economic conditions.
The spokesperson continued “Australia Zoo has taken all measures to retain members of the Australia Zoo team, however regretfully the difficult decision has been made to temporarily downscale less than 5% of the team across the business – which equates to 20 full-time and six casual staff - and push back expansion plans in the interim.”
Inquiries of a number of local operators of accommodation houses reveals that local tourist bookings, especially for mid-week accommodation have been dropping for some time, however the Easter bookings are continuing to be strong.
This all compounds with visitor numbers dropping as the flow-on effect to other businesses also drops.
Another great reason why we all should “shop locally and use local services ” to ensure local businesses survive this economic downturn.
