“War has broken out between Great Britain and Germany”
 | Andrew Powell presents telgram to Chris Brooker - Maleny RSL
| On
the 18th June, 2015 Local Member for Glasshouse has presented the
Maleny RSL Sub Branch President Chris Brooker with a copy of the
exchange of telegrams between Prime Minister Joseph Cook and Premier
Digby Denham at the commencement of WWI. These documents are the first
official Queensland records of the outbreak of WW1.
The telegram
was received on August 5th, 1914. The Premier of the day immediately
committed to Queensland not only sending service men and support
personnel overseas but whatever other services required that the state
could provide “in the service of Commonwealth an Mother Country.”
Now you can see a copy of these important historical records which are on display at the Maleny RSL Hall.
