One of the longest established events on the Range will take place at the Maleny Showgrounds on 3rd and 4th June 2011.
The
Maleny Show Society will present the 74th Show. With a history dating
back to 1923 the first Show was held on the 23rd April on the same
site. “We feel sure that the early committee would be proud of the
way the Show has changed and developed through time.” said Show
President, Ivan Hankinson.
There
were some years that the Show was not held due to drought, the
depression, the War and even flood but the committee is steaming ahead
with their plans for a fine weekend.

| To
attract a variety of entertainment and to ensure that competitors are
reward for their efforts through increased prize money in some sections
the Society calls on the local businesses and clubs for financial
support. To date in the face of much disaster in Queensland this
support has been very encouraging.
Some
of the great entertainment on offer this year includes motor cycle stunt
riders, Fireworks on Friday night, Rodeo on Saturday night, The
Spectacular Rings of Fire Event, Electronic Cow Demonstrations, Pavilion
Exhibits, Beef, Dairy and Poultry Exhibits, Aboriginal Dancers, Flag
Drill Teams, Horse events and show jumping, Dog Agility and Barrel
Racing, Reptile Pit, Puppet Show, Fashion Parades, Woodchips, Sideshow
Alley, and heaps more.
Great
entertainment on Saturday afternoon will be the Sommer’s Fuel Gumboot
Ironman competition. This event creates a lot of laughs from not only
the audience but the competitors as well as they move hay bales, push
wheelbarrows, climb fences and the list goes on. Trevor and Maree
Sommer have been generous with their sponsorship over the past few years
and it is the wonderful spirit of community businesses that will ensure
this year’s Show is bigger, brighter and more fun for the whole family.
60 Years at the Maleny Show and still loving it!
Former dairy farmer Alan Heading is one of the long standing Show Society members who has been involved with the Show in one way or another since about 1951.

Born
in Kingaroy, Alan came to Maleny as an eight year-old boy in 1949
because his father, a dairy farmer, was looking for a better climate for
his pure bred Illawarra cattle.
As a young boy he showed cattle at many Maleny Shows and to this day he volunteers his time to bring fat cattle in for the popular fundraising event “Guess the Weight of the Fat Steer”. Alan does all this himself over the two days of the Show and all the money he raises with the competition goes straight back into the improvement of the Showgrounds.
So don’t forget to seek him out over the 2 days of the Show and see if you can guess the correct weight of Alan’s steer!
Free
busses run both days of the show, Kawana Shopping World Bus Stop on the
Nicklin Way at 9.00am, 10.00am and 10.30am. You can hail and ride all
down the Nicklin Way, or grab one at the Caloundra Transit Centre or
from Landsborough.
