The
Federal Attorney-General is working to have the inquiry into
allegations about the use of cabcharge credit cards by local Federal
Member for Fisher, Mr. Peter Slipper completed so that he can take back
his position in the House of Representatives Speaker’s Chair when
parliamentary sittings re-commence.
This follows allegations by an adviser to Mr. Sipper, Mr James Ashby, alleging that there were irregularities in the use of cabcharge cards in January and February 2012.
Mr. Slipper said “The so-called criminal allegation is a complete fabrication, just as the other claims are not accurate.”
The total amount of money covered by the 13 cabcharge dockets he has made public is $1315.
There are also allegations of sexual harassment made against Mr. Slipper but those will not be dealt with before Parliament resumes.
It is anticipated that these allegations will not preclude Mr. Slipper from re-taking his position as Speaker as they are of a civil nature.
The Federal government will not be responsible for any costs involved in the civil court matter.
