Written by Les Fawkes

Still a long way to go!

The official physical search for the remains of Daniel Morcombe has ended with police vacating the property at Glasshouse Mountains where they have toiled since August 13th.

The search located Daniel’s remains along with his clothing and shoes.

Daniel Morcombe disappeared whilst awaiting a bus on Nambour Connection Road just prior to Christmas 2003.    A 42 year old man, Brett Peter Cowan has been charged with the murder.    He is to reappear in court on December 12th, 2011 for further mention.

Police Commissioner Mr Bob Atkinson said that the search was conducted by nearly 1000 SES Volunteers and 100 police personnel and took some 13,000 hours and required hand sifting of over 500 cubic metres of soil.

All items found are still the subject of forensic examination and will be used in future criminal proceedings.
