One
of the Great Dames of Maleny having come from one of the pioneeing
families, the Svenson, Mrs Shirley Olive LARNEY has been granted an OAM
for service to the community of Maleny over many decades.
Shirley and her husband, Lloyd have been part of the backbone of community organisations for over the past 4 decades.

* Committee Member and Volunteer, Maleny Show Society, since 1982; Steward and Chief Steward, Adult Handicraft Section, Main Pavilion, 1982 - 2012:
* Rotary Food Stall, many years.
* Communications Officer, Maleny State Emergency Service and Volunteer Fire Brigade, 1983 - 1996:
* Volunteer and Member, Maleny Uniting Church; Board Member, Centres for Retirement Living, 1974 - 1995;
* Member, Resident Care Group, 1989 - 2000.
* Member, Rotary Annes, many years. Supported her husband, Lloyd in his Rotary roles, since the 1970s and in 1980 was made Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Maleny.
* Volunteer, Maleny Sub Branch, Returned and Services League of Australia, since the 1970s and still continues.
* Volunteer, Merry Makers for Shut Ins, 1982 - 2000.
* Volunteer, Maleny Blue Light Disco, over 10 years.
* Member of Maleny Meals on Wheels for over 30 years ad still continues with that organisation.
Very few people would have had as much effect on Maleny community organisations as have Shirley and Lloyd Larney. In 2009 Lloyd himself was awarded an OAM for his service to the Maleny community.
Both people are such community minded people that they would pitch in for any organisation that needed assistance. Both are muchly deserving of their awards. Congratulations Shirley and Lloyd!
