Slipper secures $700,000 for Maleny viewing platform

Liberal National Member for Fisher, Peter Slipper, announced recently that an elected Abbott Government will provide $700,000 in funding for the construction of a viewing platform at the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve at Maleny.

The Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is one of the natural gems of the Sunshine Coast hinterland, and the views of the Glasshouse Mountains are breathtaking.

This viewing platform will further enhance what is already one of the most visited natural attractions of the hinterland, and will add significantly to local tourism.

The Liberal Nationals are committed to local communities and the unique projects that offer support  into the future.

“I have worked hard to achieve this $700,000 in funding for the viewing platform and I will continue to work hard in support of the local community,”  Mr Slipper said.

The Mary Cairncross Reserve is a 55ha flora and fauna reserve located on the volcanic rim of the Blackall Ranges, Maleny.    It receives some 500,000 visits each year.

The viewing platform will offer unsurpassed views of the surrounding landscape, including the Glass House Mountains, which are listed on the National Heritage Register.

The viewing platform will also help reduce the risk to the visitors who currently have to cross a road to enjoy the best views.

The funding commitment follows the investiture of the Glasshouse Mountains onto the National Heritage Register in 2006.
