The
26th Woodford Folk Festival begins tomorrow with the traditional great
line-up, great performers and introducing the ‘Global Puzzle’
This year’s theme, the mysterious ‘Global Puzzle’ will grow every night with a new piece of the planetary puzzle uncovered until the Farewell Ceremony, when the last piece will be revealed and the mystery solved.
Festival-goers are invited to bring their own personal magic to this year’s theme with a series of conspiracy workshops every morning.
Those who participate in the conspiracy will learn a new piece of music every day, then meet on the Village Green at the Ceremonial Pond each evening to perform the learned piece in the musical procession for the nightly installation of the ‘Global Puzzle.’
The daily workshops are run by 5 brilliant festival-favourite musicians, ‘The Conspirators.’ Bring along your instruments, your voice and your goodwill, and come prepared for a large collaborative daily musical event.
Darren Percival is Woodford’s own version of the Pied Piper as singers follow him venue to venue as he teaches the songs at the Singing Conspiracy.
Percussion master and pioneer of contemporary rhythm, Greg Sheehan, will be leading the Percussion Conspiracy. Greg can use a box of matches, spoons and a table to make music. A musician that brings lift to the music, he has been invited by numerous acts to perform alongside them and will be gracing the stage up to 30 times throughout the festival!
“He is probably one of the most complete musicians I have met in my time,” said Bill Hauritz, Festival Director.
Andrew Clermont is known worldwide for his fiddle and beautiful mandolin playing. Patrons are invited to bring along their fiddles, guitars, mandolins and other string instruments to join Andrew in his String and Plucking Things Conspiracy.
Teacher extraordinaire Linsey Pollack can make music from carrots, cacti or children. Heading up the Winds and Reeds Conspiracy, Linsey is the person behind the musical multicultural theme at Woodford.
“His contribution and power of influence over musicians interested in multicultural and non-English background music in Australia is unsurpassed, and we are excited to have him back at Woodford this year,” said Bill.
An absolute musical master, Mal Webb is known for his ubiquity at festivals and the joy and humour he brings to his shows. Come with your horns and any heralding instrument to Mal’s Horn Conspiracy and join in the fun! The Conspiracies will begin from 9:00am tomorrow on the 27th and will be part of the procession to install the first piece of the puzzle at the Welcome Ceremony.
