Thefts from homes on the rise
Written by Les Fawkes

Maleny has traditionally been somewhat protected from a high incidence of thieving from homes.

As a result it has been common practice to not constantly secure homes when leaving, often even leaving the front door wide open when away for the day.

In days past that may have been alright and nothing untoward happens.

However that has changed of late with the 2015 Insurerís Home Index showing that some hotspots for thefts from homes being Bald Knob, Balmoral Ridge, Booroobin, Cambroon, Conondale, Curramore, Elaman Creek, Harper Creek, Maleny, North Maleny, Reesville, Witta and Wootha.

It is now more important that local residents become more security conscious and take basic precautions and lock doors and windows to protect their property because most break-ins to homes are opportunistic.

When areas become known hotspots for criminal activity insurance companies often raise the cost of premiums for those areas.

It is important that you do your part.      If you notice any suspicious activity around your area immediately contact the police on 131444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 222 000.
