Woodford Folk Festival setting the scene at sunset
Written by Les Fawkes

The time is approaching for Woodford Folk Festival and the amphitheatre is gearing up for an even better year than last.   Woodford Folk Festival is blessed with a natural amphitheatre than can hold up to 15,000 festival goers.   Apart from being a beautiful scenic place it has held many vital roles within the festival proceedings since 1994.

As a venue for ceremonies it creates an ambience that the festival vibe depends on and allows for perfect vantage points from any area, it is perhaps, the jewel in the crown of the festival site.

Chocolate Strings

This year the festivals biggest arena plays hosts to a number of acts including; Paul Dempsey, Lisa Mitchell, The Panics, Whitley, The Middle East, Clare Bowditch and festival favourites Jon Butler Trio.

Woodford Folk Festival aims to give amphitheatre goers the chance to dance, sing or just lie back, listen and stare at the stars.

If the main acts aren’t exciting enough then this year sees two notable and exciting changes, the little stage alongside the main amphitheatre and the Sunset Sessions.

The little stage

The little stage is appearing for the first time at the festival and provides artists a short slot to entertain and amuse audiences whilst crew set up stage for the larger music acts.   Featured acts will be emerging talent and firm festival favourites from the world of music and cabaret.

The Sunset Sessions

This year Woodford Folk Festival has special plans at the amphitheatre on evenings when no ceremonies are held.   Playing on four separate sunsets Deep Blue Orchestra are set to enthral audiences with their own unique style of modern orchestral music.

Their first show ‘1.0 The Preview’ wowed audiences in 2008 and this year they are set to provide the Woodford sunset soundtrack with their new show ‘2.0 the dream’.   Deep Blue Orchestra can transport audiences to another space and time with their diverse sound ranging from the dramatic to the ethereal.

As Queenslanders themselves Woodford Folk Festival is proud to present such a unique act at such an important time of day.   The energy with which they perform has gained them a buzz making them one of the must see acts at this years event.

Ceremonies

When all is said and done Woodford Folk Festival wouldn’t be what it is without its trademark ceremonies and on the final of another year thousands of people will gather together in the traditional burning of a wooden edifice and celebrate in a the forthcoming year.

Tickets are available on the Woodford Folk Festival website www.woodfordfolkfestival.com or call the Queensland Folk Federation on 07 5496 1066.
