The 12th Annual Maleny Art Awards and Exhibition held last weekend saw
record crowds over the three days. The 2005 exhibition was described
by many as the best ever with over 430 paintings on display with the
majority of a very high standard.
Commenting on the exhibition as it drew to a close on Monday afternoon committee chairman Bob Taylor said the paintings? high standards was reflected in the sale of 55 paintings. Again the high standard of presentation in St Georges Church received favourable comment from the large number of visitors from around south-east Queensland.
Officially opening the exhibition on Friday evening, local businessman Tim Bagshaw congratulated the committee and reminded everyone how the annual art awards have grown to become a major feature and a very significant drawcard, which helps to bring so many to Maleny every year for the Queen?s birthday long weekend.
A special feature at the Maleny exhibition every year is the Margaret Stevenson led Maleny Floral Art Group?s floral art display and this year was no exception. The Floral Art together with the outstanding glass art pieces by Tina Cooper made for an outstanding display. Jan Leake Jones from Buderim judged the artwork with the major award - the St Georges Award and the Ken Farrow Trophy going to local artist Brian Allison from Caloundra. The People?s Choice announced on Monday afternoon was Team Meeting by Peta Boyce.
John and Iris Sparshott from Elaman Creek won the exhibition raffle, a landscape donated by Graham W Smith from Brisbane.
