State Member for Glass House Carolyn Male MP encourages motorists to
have their say on ways to alleviate the effect of the high petrol price
on residents by giving comments or a submission to the Queensland
Parliament's Select Committee on Petrol Pricing.
Carolyn Male said the all-party committee is looking at the effects of high fuel prices on consumers and businesses across Queensland and investigating ways consumers can save on fuel bills.
"The committee is also investigating whether consumers are benefiting from the State Government's 8.35 cents per litre fuel subsidy, as well as the viability of E10 ethanol blend and other alternative fuels," she said. Chair of the Select Committee Andrew Fraser MP, Member for Mount Coot-tha, said consumers are yet to feel the full brunt of high fuel prices and the domino effect it will have on other prices.
"It is only a matter of time before a second wave of flow-on effects start to inflate the prices of food and other goods and services," Mr Fraser said. "This could have a devastating impact on struggling families and pensioners who are already living below the poverty line." Carolyn Male said the committee will conduct hearings across Queensland and is calling for public submissions, particularly from people in rural and regional communities. Submissions close on November 11. The committee will report to parliament in March.
