Maple Street Co-operative celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, a
remarkable achievement in modern day retailing. "We owe a lot to the
vision of the original founders of the Coop all those years ago as well
as the Directors and staff that have carried on the dream and the
vision," said Alan Harrington.
Like all organisations the Coop has had its ups and downs and will have some in the future, no doubt. With its clear ethical vision, its community focus it is an organisation that serves and will continue to serve the community in many and varied ways.
The Co-op plays a key role in the Maleny community, particularly with its stance on many of the issues that are confronting us. The big corporations, developers and others seem bent on destroying many of the values that we feel are important and should be retained for ourselves and our children.
Through its principles and philosophy the Co-op provides employment for locals, encourages and buys from local producers and manufacturers and is there to serve its members. The Co-op is commemorating its 25 years this Saturday, October 15 with a spectacular night at the Maleny Community Centre. The evening begins at 6pm and continues until midnight.
The entertainment is local choir group Sweet Chilli, our wonderful Divishti and then the Rockin Rhythm Cats to dance the night away. Meals are by Spaghetti Junction and the whole night costs $15 (drinks at your cost). Co-op members and friends are very welcome to come along and help us all enjoy the night.
So feel free to just come along and join in or organize your own table of friends. Bookings are essential and should be made at the Co-op during business hours.
From left Co-op birthday buddies Rod, Cheryl, Alan and Yacoba are set to raise the roof on Saturday.
