Acclaimed journalist George Negus congratulated Barung Landcare on promoting Australian native timbers at the 10th Anniversary Maleny Wood Expo Dinner at the Maleny Showgrounds last Friday night.
Long-term landcare supporter and Dateline host George Negus was both humorous and thought-provoking on the night. "With the environment no longer on the general public and media agenda it is fantastic to see groups such as Barung carrying forward the ideals of landcare. I am delighted to be involved in celebrating such a remarkable milestone," Mr Negus said. The event was a huge success with Dr Eve Fesl, representing local Gubbi Gubbi people, welcoming 250 guests to her country. During the evening the three magnificent ArtisTree camphor laurel pieces were auctioned. Greg Sheehan and his band Coolangubra, and local artists Paul Clement, Andrew Yorkston, Steve McLeish and Dawn Deveraux, added to the festivities. The night was a great prelude to the 2005 Maleny Wood Expo, which is on again from April 30 to May 2 at the Maleny Showgrounds. Once again south-east Queensland's top wood artisans will be showcasing fine furniture to rough bush furniture. Tickets to the Expo are $8, under 16s free.
