Written by Administrator

The Tranquil Park Resort hosted the annual Irish Road Bowls Competition on Saturday March 19 to celebrate St Patrick?s Day. It marked the day for a record amount of funds being raised for local community groups.    The grand total of

$4300 will be shared between Maleny State Emergency Service (SES), Maleny and Community Kindergarten and Meals on Wheels.    The Monster raffle was an exciting event with many prizes to be won, but the highlight of the day was the Mystery Auction.   John Hyde of Hyde?s Plumbing was the proud purchaser of the 2005 signed Broncos jersey for an undisclosed amount.   Congratulations John.

Thank you to the business?s that sponsored teams, plus prizes for the raffle, Maleny Glass and Maleny Picture Framing Gallery for donation of services and everyone who participated to help make this day a success. And now to the results.

The winner of the overall Irish Road Bowls Comp 2005 and Men?s Comp was defending champion Dale Diefenbach bowling for R&L Anderson Plumbing.    He completed the 4.5 kilometres course from the Celtic Tearoom to the Tranquil Park Resort in just 47 throws.    He also took out the trophy for the Men?s Longest Bowl which was 202.5 metres in length. Not bad, when considering the weight of the ball is 800gms!    Accompanied by team members Wayne (gofer) and Wayne Lewis (road shower) who helped him to claim a well deserved victory.

Just a throw behind on 48 shots was a tie for second placing going to Herb Engle bowling for Natural Therapies Studio (Peter Pearson ? gofer/ Keith Owens ? road shower) and Phil Prentice representing Colin James Fine Foods (Wilko ? gofer/ Chris Pearson ? road shower).   Davey?s Transport bowler Warren Cox claimed third placing on 49, along with team members Wal and Cole.   Well done boys!

Dale Diefenback won the Men's competition
and Cheryl Grannt won the Women's competition

Meanwhile the women had an exciting competition of their own going on.    Cheryl Grant excelled herself on the day to bring the IGA girls (Gypsy West ? gofer/ Sandy Hopper ? road shower) home to become the 2005 Irish Road Bowls Champs of the women?s competition in just 63 throws.   She also claimed the trophy for the ?longest Bowl?, being 127 metres and the girls pulled a hat trick taking home the award for ?Best Dressed Team?.   The Davie?s Transport defending women?s champion bowler of two years

Jodie Diefenbach was only a throw behind the IGA girls, supported by her trusty road shower Judy Cox and gofer Cassie Pearson to take out the ?Runner?s Up Award?.   Third placing of the day went to Kerry Bauman who bowled for Heading Buses/ Maleny Plumbing, supported by Desley Cole and Karen Heading.

The ?Veteran?s Award? was given to Statewide Loans who had experienced bowler Kerry Woods on their side, accompanied by Darren and Gorden.    Kerry completed the two mile in 57 throws.

The Four Leaf Clover Award went to Di Morgan and girls bowling for the Celtic Tearooms.    This is prestigious award for the highest score of the day.   Sixteen teams competed on the day with overall scores as follows.
