Caloundra City Council has almost completed work on the Landsborough Sports and Recreation Clubhouse, the first stage of a project aimed at upgrading and developing the much needed facility. Caloundra City Mayor, Don Aldous, said the project, funded in partnership with the State Government, started in June 2004 when Council approved the tender for the consideration of the new clubhouse.
"The Landsborough Sport and Recreation clubhouse is an exciting project that will gain momentum as it heads towards completion about March/April this year," Cr Aldous said. "Road construction, carparking and landscaping is expected to start as soon as the old buildings are removed so locals will start to see this project unfold within the next few weeks."
Division three Councillor, Del Winkler said the clubhouse was being developed in conjunction with the State Government who had provided a $438,000 grant to kick start the first stage. "The Landsborough Sportsground and clubhouse, and the master plan, is a staged development to be completed over a series of years.
"The first stage, which is currently underway, is the building of the clubhouse only and the State Government funds have been allocated to this first stage," Cr Winkler said. "Additional stages, including the toilets and change rooms, will be considered by Council for funding in the Annual Financial Plan deliberation process."
Cr Winkler said that the Landsborough Sport and Recreation Committee will be an integral part of the success of the clubhouse. "They will manage it professionally as part of a Management Agreement that will come before Council for adoption shortly," Cr Winkler said.
"Under that agreement, they may choose, by majority vote, to outsource the entertainment at the Clubhouse. This is a great opportunity for the Committee and I have complete trust in their professionalism and their decisions which will make this a great facility for our community."
