Time flies when you are having fun. Or, some may say, when you are
making cheese! Maleny Cheese has now been open for a year and to
celebrate they are combining their official opening, first birthday and
launch of their new washrind cheeses on Sunday, April 10.
There will be a jumping castle and a cooking demonstration with Maleny Cheeses by the Terrace Seafood Restaurant chef Craig Mitchell. The day will appeal to everyone. The event will kick off at 9am on Sunday morning with cheese making and the official opening at 10.30am with Mayor Don Aldous.
On Sunday there will be displays by a variety of local businesses showcasing their products and services. These businesses will include the Maleny Innovative Farmer's Group, Veraya Nursery, Maleny Kitchen Gardens, Riversands Winery and local B&B's.
For the kids there will be calf feeding times at 9.30am and 3.30pm and Great Glider Children Book readings at 10am and 3pm. Meanwhile, Markus Bucher of Maleny Cheese is pleased to announce the introduction of washrind cheeses to its repertoire of cheeses with the official launch on Sunday.
"We wanted to make a stronger and more flavoursome cheese, you could say a cheese with a little more grunt," said Markus. "That's why we decided to introduce the washrind cheese, we have two types the wash-rind brie and the wash-rind tilsit." This wasn't exactly a spontaneous decision on behalf of Markus to introduce wash-rind cheeses to the cheesery.
The preparation time that goes into making a wash-rind cheese takes over three months where they are regularly washed to create the right flavour and taste. When Markus summed up the first year of business for Maleny Cheese, a couple of words came to mind.
"Busy, interesting and rewarding." So, where do you see Maleny Cheese five years from now? "We'll have a greater variety of cheeses for our visitors and a range of gourmet products," said Markus.
"We
would also like to build the educational side of cheese making. So
that we are better equipped to cater for large groups and have the
facilities to educate them in the making of cheese."
Throughout the day, The Cheese Stop licensed cafe will be operating as
usual, so make a day of it and help celebrate this wonderful event at 1
Clifford Street, Maleny. For more details contact Maleny Cheese on
