The Maleny Jewellers have just become the jewel in Caloundra City's Art
Show Crown, taking the first place prize in the Precious Metal and
Jewellery Category at its 33rd annual show.

It is great news for the store's owner and chief craftsman Jim Goulton, who has only been designing and crafting jewellery for nine years after a four year apprenticeship, yet beat 15 other finalists in the category. "It's a breakthrough for me into more art-styled jewellery,? Jim said. ?Hopefully it will help me make a reputation for myself."
Jim won his category with an 18 carrot opal and diamond set pendent which was valued at $20,000. "This is my specialist area," Jim said. "I like to do big stone piece and this was one of the biggest opals I have ever worked with."
Such was the beauty of the piece that a wealthy buyer, who wished to remain anonymous, snapped it up straight after the competition!
