Federal Member for Fisher Peter Slipper presented commemorative
medallions to Lionel "John" Shingles, Tom Dansie and Anne Brooker
during the Maleny RSL Sub-branch Mature Age Debutante Ball held last
Saturday, August 13.
The medallions commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. They were commissioned by the Federal Government to be presented to an estimated 400,000 Australian, British Commonwealth and Allied World War II veterans, widows and widowers across Australia ths year.
The debutante ball was also a chance for Mr Slipper to mingle with Hinterland residents and National Party coalition partners. Peter Slipper presented Maleny RSL Sub-branch president Helen Gilmour- Walsh with a special Australian flag during the ball.
The flag is one of a limited number that is actually flown inside Parliament House. This flag was flown in the house on March 29, 2004.
