Few Maleny Showgoers who witnessed the thrilling spectacle of FMX rider
Morgan Stevenage slicing through the air would have been aware that an
accident a year ago almost cost the young man his life.
Morgan, 18, lay bleeding to death in a paddock after a training disaster on his Conondale property. He had to be airlifted to hospital. ?Maleny was only the second show I?ve done since the accident, which took me out for a year,?? Morgan said. The accident happened after he lost control of the motorbike mid-air and was unable to remount.
The landing was not good: ?I had the foot pedal go through my tailbone into the back of my pelvis,?? he said. ?I was in hospital for two weeks. I had a colostomy bag for 10 months. Then I had to go and get more surgery and get my bowel put back together.? Remarkably, the accident didn?t phase him. Morgan, who has been riding since he was six, was back in the saddle as soon as possible.
?It?s just such an adrenalin rush. I like pushing my limits. That?s why I get hurt - because I push my limit a bit too far. And then I learn and then I push the limit a bit further the next time.? Morgan leapt 60 feet from ramp to ramp at the Maleny Show but practices jumps up to 75 feet at home.
?I push the limit with tricks and jumps. I?m not at my best yet. I am continually getting better. I?ll develop more trick variations. I?ll do more spectacular tricks. I had fun at Maleny Show. It was good not having to travel far. I?ve got friends up here so I could hang out with them. Usually there?s noone else to hang out with.
?I don?t think I?ll ever stop. I?ll keep going until I die.
