In line with their policy to honour local businesses that support the
Maleny Art Awards and Exhibition, popular local identity Tim Bagshaw
will officially open the art exhibition this Friday June 10. Tim and
his wife Mary have been strong supporters of the Maleny Art Awards for
a number of years.
The 12th annual Art Awards and Exhibition in St Georges Church and hall this weekend promises to be as spectacular as any heldIn line with their policy to honour local businesses that support the Maleny Art Awards and Exhibition, popular local identity Tim Bagshaw will officially open the art exhibition this Friday June 10. Tim and his wife Mary have been strong supporters of the Maleny Art Awards for a number of years.
The 12th annual Art Awards and Exhibition in St Georges Church and hall this weekend promises to be as spectacular as any held in the past with a near record 428 entries from 237 artists. Entries have been received from throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. The $12,000 prize money will be distributed across nine sections, with the top prize - the St Georges Award ? will attract a $2,500 cash prize.
While receiving entries last Sunday Committee Chairman Bob Taylor said: ?This year?s judge Jan Leake Jones from Buderim will be presented with a difficult task. The quality of the paintings overall are outstanding.? This year?s Feature Artist is Tina Cooper whose glass art is certain to provide an attractive contrast.
The Maleny Floral Art Group will again decorate the venue with fresh flowers. Their work has been an exhibition highlight in past years. The official opening on Friday is expected to attract crowd of 200 art enthusiasts. A light meal will be served with wine. Tickets must be pre-purchased from the Maleny Newsagency.
Anyone interested in attending this special evening on Maleny?s annual social calendar need to ensure that their entry is assured. The exhibition will be open to the general public from 10am on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Visitors will be offered a wine with Kenilworth Cheese or if they prefer a cup of Montville Coffee.
After twelve years the Maleny Art Awards and Exhibition is regarded as one of the major events on the Art Calendar in eastern Australia and the venue has become a favourite for many recognised artists.
